When your thinking about pond fish it's always best to know
what type/breed of fish your thinking about getting B-4 you
get them, Cause there is a lot to choose from, so think wise.

I have raised a lot of fish over the yrs & have learned a lot
with all the fish I have raised, & not just fish I have learned
about but ponds as well, & that's where it all starts at.

When you start thinking about fish you have to think about
their environment 1st, where they started from & how to
make their pond area the same as their
environment. 👍

This means to do all the research you can on what breed
your going to put in your pond, & B-4 getting your fish
you want to make it safe from other animals that kill fish.

Coons, cats, birds, insects,  & weather, winter & summer
the pond has to be safe from freezing in the winter, so that
means it has to have a submerged heater (with A air pump).

When it comes to winter if you wrap the pond in thick
tarps it will keep most the cold air off the pond where it
won't freeze as bad or as thick, where it melts faster.

Summer heat will cause algae & hot water & neither 1 is
good for the fish, So a good shade cloth is a good way to
keep the pond cool &
algae free & the fish happy & healthy.

To put a shade cloth over the pond, the best way is to use
2 inch-thick wall PVC pipe frame as big as the pond is
where you can put vinyl lattice on top or heavy duty wire.

The pvc pipe frame will be strong enough to hold the
weight of the snow & the shade cloth will let the snow
melt in the pond to give it fresh water as well as rain.

Plant's are good for breeding, but if your going to have
plant's they need to be big enough & deep to keep them
from being ripped out & destroyed by being eaten.

You Could use "fake plants" that's clued to the floor of the
pond so they have a place to breed & a place for the fry
to hide in & put some gulf ball size rocks to hide under.

This all may sound like a lot of work but really it's not if
you think ahead of time to do what needs to be done B-4
getting your fish it will all be easy to just set it up & done.

I have a 8 ft round pond & have done everything you
have read here & it has kept my goldfish happy & healthy
where they spawn fry every year, that's a happy pond.

But that's not the only things I've done with my pond to
make it healthy, I have made a 100 gal stock tank bog
tank that filters the pond to keep the pond healthy.

How to Make a Bog Filter < This explains the DIY way.

So with all that said & explained I hope this helps you
to get all you need to learn & get you started to a easy
simple happy healthy pond to enjoy every year. 👍

I'll leave you this video to learn about a favorite fish
that is most enjoying to raise & sell if you get too
many to raise in your pond, hit the title B-low.
