Getting a head start on the bog filter system "6-19-26"

I've been working on getting my bog filter system started 
for the fish shelter we're fixing to start on hopefully soon
if we can catch a break from the rain sometime in the next 
few weeks, being it's mid June & the rainy season is here.

I wasn't thinking when I bought the shelter BUT now that
I have it & it's been under a plastic cover for a month &
everything else has gotten in the way of getting this going
I got to thinking why not get the bog system put together.

So that's just what I've been doing BUT B-4 I got started I
did a BUNCH of research on what I wanted to do & haven't
found ANYTHING close to what I'm going to be doing &
that's make a "DOUBLE WATERFALL" from a stock tank.

YES you read that right, a 110 gal stock tank bog system
With a 2700 gph pond pump for a 8 ft X 3 ft pond for Koi's
butterfly Koi's at that & I have researched all that as well &
it can be done if you think about it hard enough like I have.

What I mean by all my research is from Video's & other
blog post's I've found & NOT just a FEW but PLEANTY
to make sure what I'm doing is going to be safe for the pond
& the fish, to give the system everything it will need.

Well being the Video is too big (long) I can't put it on here
BUT I'll find a way to explain what I'm talking about B-4 
I end this blog so if you ever want to do 1 like I did you can

B-low is what I drew up to give you the idea I'm working with to make my 
bog system for the pond that we're making a 14X18 shelter for, just tap the

Picture this with the cabin on the HIGHEST part
then the LEAN TOO as the shelter, Being the
18 ft side be against the cabin just reverse

what your looing at more or less.

You see the storage water tank there? & the pond the cow is drinking from?
THAT'S basically what we're going to do with the pond to give the pond 

rainwater for the koi to spawn in during the rainy seasons.

This is the over view setup I'm looking at doing
& it will be completely sealed up to keep the cold & hot 
weather from effecting the pond in ANY WAY

it will be temperature controlled like a house.

To Make this ALL work there's a lot
that goes into this & the MAIN thing is the filter system
& this is why I'm working on this like I am, so I have a
head start so when the shelter is built & ready to put

the pond in the filter system will also be ready to hook up.

Biological filter media is made from a range of

different materials, BUT ALL are OPTIMIZED 

to provide MAXIMUM surface area for Biological 

beneficial bacteria to grow.

Materials is not as important as the MEDIA'S

OVER ALL  specific surface area "SSA" is as 

the HIGHER surface area you have the MORE 

Bacteria can grow & the BETTER filtration you

will have, if you have LOW media surface area

& a lot of fish, you will have to ADD more media

cause of the waist BUILD up they will create.

GOOD BIO-MEDIA TYPES are> K-1 rings, or

ceramic rings, or porous stone media "LAVA ROCK"

Another thing to consider is whether you want

media that's FREE MOVING ? in your filter system

SOME Biological media usually "foam" or matting

are completely STATIC against your pump's WATER 

FLOW, the problem is that DEAD bacteria Begins to

BUILD UP & can not be removed from the media 

without it being cleaned MANUALLY.

The MORE "DEAD" Bacteria you have the LESS

Biological filtration you will have.

So this is why you REALLY have to do all the research you can get on 

the filter system B-4 hooking it up to your pond.
